We’re off! Well, yesterday we finally started. I’ll have to make this short. Our scheduled day of departure, Monday, June 2, was postponed because of moving, but an unexpected blessing arrived on Tuesday, Fran Cress and her husband Jack. They wanted to help, and boy did they! By Wednesday we were practically done and spent a relaxing time with them before heading out to see Ron and Nancy Nelson near Santa Cruz. They had a delicious meal waiting for us and we had a good time with them after the day’s ride, which was 44 kilometers (about 27 miles). The trip itself was nice. Sarah made it the whole way by herself. We stopped a few times to rest. I had two unexpected rest stops when I couldn’t get my feet out of the cleats before tumbling over. Inexperience. I’ll learn. Today we continue through Santa Cruz toward Half Moon Bay. I don’t know which campground we will stop in. We’ll see. I need to stop at a bike shop to see about mounting Becky’s kick stand and getting a few screws and things. Everyone seems ok, some a little sunburned, so we’ll see how things go.

My father and I enjoyed our dinner with you at the Ferry building in San Francisco. I have written to friends about you--who knows how the Universe will provide. But you gave us happiness and joy in huge quantities today. Keep going!

Hey, Bill and family! We really enjoyed our time with you in Santa Cruz on your first momentous day on the road. You were all a blessing and your children are all so well-behaved that it didn't feel like we were having 9 people overnight! I still pray for you every time I see a bicyclist on the road, which is every day at least once, and wonder how you're doing. I was disappointed that you haven't had a chance to post since you were here, but was elated to find a post by someone you met along the way in San Franciso. So that's a great idea: Ask people you meet to post so we can keep track of your progress, since finding a computer will be difficult for you. Take care and God bless you all.
