2

Well, It’s been nine days since I have entered anything, so here goes. First off, I want to say God has led us to some great people! This has been the biggest jewel of the trip so far – to see the best in giving, helpful people who have encouraged us along the way. The challenges are multifaceted, and I find that we have opportunities to grow in many unique ways -- mentally, emotionally, physically, socially, and spiritually. I will backtrack and give information chronologically.
Friday, 6-6-08 Past Santa Cruz, CA
After eating breakfast at Nancy and Ron’s house, my friend Joe McCroskey came over to wish us Bon Voyage. He brought over juice, snacks, and nine Chapsticks for us. After praying, we pedaled off toward Santa Cruz to go to a bike shop to buy gloves and see about a few mechanical issues. Then we made a pit stop at Safeway before heading out of Santa Cruz toward Davenport. The wind began to really blow hard, so we looked for and found a place to put up our tent just past Wilder Ranch State Park. It was in a small clump of trees on the edge of a 50’ cliff overlooking the beach – a beautiful place. It was sheltered enough to allow sleeping on the ground without our tent, a time saver. After eating, arranging our sleeping bags and organizing our stuff for the next morning, we all walked down to the beach, which we had all to ourselves. A lot of fun. We made it back to our campsite in enough time to write some entries in our journals. 15 miles.
