Thursday, 6-12-08, Lake Solano Campground, near Winters, CA
We got a pretty early start, around 6:45, on a calm day with beautiful weather. About ½ hour down the road Willie had a minor crash when we was looking behind while riding. Fortunately, neither he nor Sarah, who he pulls on the trailer bike, was hurt. He scraped his arm and learned an important lesson, I hope, about keeping his eyes on the road. It warmed up pretty fast. The afternoon ride was hot, but the road was fairly level. We drank a lot of water and by the time we arrived at Lake Solano Campground, we were pretty drained. I drug myself to the shower and felt a little better. The kids bounce back very quickly after being very tired, and soon they were playing and swimming in the lake. Later that evening, Becky and I walked to the store and bought a lot of cherries, crushed ice, and an ice-cold, two-liter bottle of Mama’s medicine – Coke. Everyone went to bed pretty early because we were tired and tomorrow we wanted to get an early start to Sacramento. 52 miles.
